Wolfman in Love

So here we are, 13 episodes. That's a quarter of a year. I plan to talk about Kiva thus far in the near future (well, do A LOT of things here in the near future) but for the moment, here's the review.

Spoilers and Alternative Zero(!?) ahead.

I can make you a star

Kamen Rider Kiva episode 13: "Unfinished: Daddy Fight"

There's the recap of last episode. The Riders jump and kick each other, Kivat talks about Rock again, and Kiva sits victoriously on Bronze Booster.

Nago stumbles along an underground corridor. Megumi tries to help him up, but he pushes her down. I mean like, shoves her to the ground! This guy is terrible, isn't he? Megumi consults with Shima, who doesn't seem to care about anything other than his weight. Priorities man, priorites.

Wataru meanwhile is still rockin' along with Shizuka & Kengo as they play in some random warehouse. From the shadows, a mystery man named Miyake watches them. A mystery man played by Jinbo Satoshi, who you might remember as Kagawa/Alternative Zero! Or maybe you won't, I wouldn't blame you.

Kengo & Wataru are eating at Kengo's apartment. Kengo talks about his dreams of becoming a professional musician now, and he wants Wataru onboard all the way. When Wataru leaves, Miyake (hiding in an alley... what a weirdo) follows him. He approaches him on a bridge, and makes him an offer.

At a weird restaurant, the man gives Wataru his card. He's a scout, one of those people that promises to make dreams come true. He can make Wataru a real star, but Wataru isn't really interested in fame. He says that it's Kengo who wants to become the star. But the man isn't interested in him, repeating that he (Kengo) is "Unworthy..."

1986. Riki gives Jirô a massage while Ramon sits nearby, shining his shoes. They discuss humans again. When we see their reflections, their true monster forms are revealed (well, not Riki's, yet.) Jirô talks of his grander plan, involving the fate of the "Wolfen Clan"...

2008. Wataru's in the bath. Kivat scrubs his hair which is... um... yeah...

Miyake burns a photo of Wataru. "Unworthy..." Nothing new there.

1986. Yuri & Jirô are training at a pool. Jirô suddenly begins to drown, so Yuri dives in after him, but he's just joking around (and desperatelty trying for a Shin Kamen Rider.) He's about to put the moves on Yuri when Otoya shows up, floatation device in hand as he can't swim. But he still flounders and begins to drown, and Yuri just says he's an idiot. HAHAHAHA, he's dying! HAHAHAHAHA!

2008. Kengo is at Wataru's place. He notices that he makes violins, and Wataru starts talking about his dream to be like his father. But Kengo tells him they're going to be rockers, right? Wataru explains how Kengo gave him the strength to pursue his dream again. He then plays, and Kengo silently watches. Kengo claps.

"Great!"

Kengo is surprised at Wataru's greater ambition, but accepts it. Together, they'll make their dreams come true.

Later, on a bench, Kengo considers his future and the implications of the fact that he won't always have Wataru to rely on. Miyake shows up again, offering him the chance to be a star.

Megumi leaves her favorite restaurant. An out of control car drives nearby, and Nago stands in its way. He stops it with his foot, and identifies the driver as another evildoer, who tries to flee. Nago grabs him and beats the crap out of him.

"I am strong!" he yells insanely as the police arrive. But they arrest Nago, hauling him off. In the struggle with the other man, we see that some of his buttons had fallen off...

1986. Jirô pursues a woman in the woods, but is stopped by Otoya. "I am the ally of all human women." he says. Right Otoya, you keep telling yourself that.

Jirô, tired of Otoya's constant interruptions in his life (and let's face it, nearly every 1986 scene with him lately has had Otoya showing up) loses it.

"You don't understand anything!"

Jirô drops the IXA Knuckle as he wails on Otoya...

2008. Kengo is now working at a construction site. Wataru sees him, and asks what's up. The other man talks of how he was scouted, but he needs to pony up some cash before he can make it big. Wataru offers to help. Watch then as Wataru & Kengo drink Oronamin C and the shot holds on them just long enough to get the point aross. Product placement, baby!

Later, Wataru nurses his sore arms as he talks to Shizuka about his new part-time job. She thinks it's strange that you have to earn money to make a debut in the first place.

Later, Miyake approaches a painter, who asks when he'll be able to make it big. Hasn't he paid enough? Apparently not, as Miyake turns out to be the Rhinoceros Fangire! Back at the site, Wataru & Kengo are working hard. Suddenly, Wataru senses the Fangire, and runs for it.

1986. Garulu attacks and kills a woman, draining her life energy, but as he reverts to human form, Otoya is there, looking worse for the wear. He asks what Jirô plans to do to Yuri.

"That woman is strong!"

Jirô's idea, and I can't believe they actually got away with this, is that Yuri will be the mother of his offspring, and the Wolfen Clan (of which he is the last surviving member) can continue. Well, he does actually love her too, but that's priority 1 at the moment.

Otoya is understandably pissed.

"Stop messing around."

2008. The Rhino kills that poor man just as Wataru arrives, summoning Kivat.

"Henshin!"

Kiva (Kiva Form) fights the monster, but the Rhinoceros Fangire is too strong. Kiva summons Basshaa. Basshaa is setting up dominoes, but has to knock them all down in his rush to leave (I like how Garulu eats one.)

Kiva Basshaa Form starts shooting away as the rain pours down. But his blasts do nothing. His gun is knocked from his hand, and he's suddenly helpless. Subtle commentary here?

1986. Jirô lifts Otoya up by the neck, strangling him. He throws him back. Otoya pulls out the IXA Knuckle, and Jirô realizes he had dropped it. Otoya becomes IXA. Jirô runs towards him, but IXA is too strong, and sends him flying back now. Jirô becomes Garulu.

They fight. IXA beats him up, then pulls out the Knuckle, sending a burning blast right at Garulu...

NEXT TIME: Dogga Form brings the hammer down!
