Born to be Wild

I still have to get the DX sword toy, but TV-Asahi is also in agreement about it being "Garulu Form".

Spoilers and fully expected Zanki-san ahead.

Mothra vs. Zanki

Kamen Rider Kiva Episode 4: "Reverie: Wild Blue"

There's yet another brief recap of last time, with Kiva fighting the Moth Fangaire and throwing it in early. The Narrator talks about violins again. Shizuka & the lawyer (Natsukawa Aya, but I'll just call her "the lawyer") are at Wataru's house. Wataru, in a more sullen mood than usual, thinks back to the people who his father ruined. Shizuka tells him to cheer up. He asks lawyer what to do. She relates to him the wishes of the victims, that he make amends for his (apparently deceased/missing) father's deeds. Wataru expresses relief that he crossed paths with Nago Keisuke, the bounty hunter from last episode, as it has given him someone he feels he can confer with.

Shima plays racketball (or squash, one of those things) and talks with Nago, who is upset that Shima doesn't seem as gung-ho about killing Kiva as he is. Nago thinks hes a menace and desires to see him put down. Shima explains that out of all the Fangaire Hunters, he feels Nago is the strongest. "Stronger than Kiva" Nago adds, mentioning that he desires a "Rider System" of his own!

Wataru goes to the cafe. Megumi is there, ready with a put-down. "Rare. You're not here with Mama?" There's some silliness until Nago comes in, and recognizes Wataru from last time. Wataru tries to get in a word about his father, who Nago seems to have a connection to as well. Megumi doesn't exactly help things.

A hiker gets killed by the Moth Fangaire. It's Hibiki all over again!

At a different cafe, Wataru consults with Nago about his daddy. Nago's life-saving advice (which is about as useful as "you gotta do what you gotta do") is interrupted when he he sees a fat rich-looking guy put his bill on a card. Nago recognizes him as another of the rabble which he so despises, or maybe he's just prejudiced against people of size? Either way, he goes after him, identifying him as Tachikawa Yuji.

Tachikawa Yuji... Wataru recognizes that name as one of the people who crossed paths with his father and was ruined as a result. Nago takes his button and beats the snot out of him. "Please be reborn".

Wataru asks Tachikawa about Otoya. Tachikawa recognizes the name, and relates a time when they met at a fancy Chinese place. The bill was over 30,000 yen ($300-ish.) Otoya played the violin as payment, impressing Tachikawa.

"You're a genius!"

"I know."

Yet again, Yuri was there. Tachikawa backed a concert for Otoya out of his own pocket, but the main man skipped on the event and Tachikawa was ruined. He breaks down crying and Wataru apologizes.

1986. Following the above flashback scene, Otoya is hitting on Yuri. So she hits him back.

Later, Otoya takes a bath, and sinks below the water...

2008. Wataru rises up in the same bath. Kivat-Bat joins him. Wataru decides to make amands for his father's past misdeeds. He helps the old man who now works as a crossing guard. He helps the other one with his Ramen cart business. Megumi shows up and tries to talk him out it (either out of pity for him or for the victims, who Wataru isn't exactly a benefit to) but Nago arrives to tell him to keep on doing what he's doing. He than gets in a spat with Megumi and leaves her in a huff.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Wataru is helping out at a construction site and screwing up as usual. Shizuka asks the two victims she met (the old guys) to forgive him.

Later, Wataru moodily plays the violin. Kivat-Bat tries to talk him out of his funk, but gives up.

1986. Yuri meets with Shima about Kurenai Otoya. "He's an interesting man" Shime relents. Yuri is scared of that puppy again.

2008. the Victims consult with the lawyer, asking to forgive Otoya and drop their charges, freeing Wataru from his newfound life of servitude. They talk about how great their lives have become now actually. They may not be rich, but they're making people happy. The lawyer says "How sweet... but I can't forgive you. Now disappear." and she turns into Moth Fangaire, killing one of the men.

The Bloody Rose stops. Wataru jumps into action and rides to the scene on the Machine Kivaa. The other man dies of the Moth's fangs, and Wataru arrives. Kivat-Bat appears, and he transforms.

"Henshin!"

Kiva easily knocks back the Moth Fangiare, who reverts to the lawyer. Kiva reverts back to Wataru. "Why!?"

"Kurenai Otoya... I have one good thing to say of him."

Natsukawa, we learn, was one of the girls he hit on in the past! She was the one who he was with right before Yuri appeared and they were attacked (by Moth Fangaire) last time. As it turns out, there was a time when he played his violin for her, and she fell in love.

"I loved him." But... "He didn't even see me." when Yuri had appeared.

She could not forgive him, which is why she dedicated her life to ruining his name thereafter. She reverts back to Fangaire form, and attacks Wataru. Kivat-Bat shows up and he transforms again.

Kiva is attacked with the dust powder. Moth Fangaire pulls out a sword, and Kiva is overwhelmed. But a blue Fuestle floats down into the mouth of Kivat-Bat.

"Garulu Saber!"

Castle Dran is summoned from its hiding place. One of the three men glimpsed in episode #2, Garulu, arises and runs into action. He transforms into the Garulu Saber and flies out into Kiva's hands. Kiva takes it, and chains wrap around his arm, shoulder and chest, changing them. Kivat-Bat's & Kiva's eyes change colors to blue as an ethereal wolf-like monster seems to overtake him.

Kiva is now wild and animalistic. Using the swrd, he brutally fights with Moth Fangaire. Garulu Form attacks with a sonic howl blast from the sword. He puts the
sword in Kivat-Bat's mouth.

"Garulu Bite!"

Day becomes night, aad he puts the sword in his own mouth. He runs at the monster, jumps, and does a flying downward slash which destroys the enemy (the resulting explosin is preceeded by yet another glimpse of the wolf-like beast.) Castle Dran picks up the remaining energy.

As Watury plays the violin, he thinks of his father, and of the great man he's always known he was...

Post-episode CM: The Garulu Saber now in the ad for the belt!

NEXT TIME: Wataru puts on a show. Garulu runs around and Garulu Form will see another use. And was that the Spider Fangaire?

  1. The monsters are FANGIRE again. If they stop changin the name every week, it would be nice. The review is great as usual ^__^

  2. I'm liking Garulu form and his more unique way of performing a sword finisher

    On a sidenote:
Karma. Do good things and good things happen to you. Do bad things and Kiva'll be paying a visit.

    My name is Wataru
