Den-O Episode #8: "Sad Melody, Love Memory"

Slightly delayed (internet problems) and slightly abridged, as this episode was a little less insane than last week and mostly about getting this sub plot wrapped up.

That said, as soon as I get started, it's a Spoiler Warning!

Despite seemingly being blown up last episode, Den-O survives, and is brought back aboard the Den-Liner by Hana. Momotaros & Ryôtarô seperate, and Urataros gets a good laugh as his fellow Imagin's defeat. They're never going to get along, are they?

The gang's all here

In spite of his injuries, Ryôtarô is convinced he must continue the search for Yumi, shaking off Hana's offer to help (because he thinks they'd just get in an argument.) Tomoya is still holding the Milk Dipper hostage, but it's all business as usual for Airi.

Ryôtarô runs into Yumi and asks her about the Crow Imagin, but she shakes him off. Urataros gives him a hand by possessing him and working his magic. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to help much either, as Urataros just ends up wasting skillfully spending time as usual.

Hey, baaaaaa-by!

Urataros gets in another fight with Momotaros, ticked off at the other Imagin's ways, and a whole bunch of random mysterious extras on the Den-Liner get freaked out. Seriously, who are those people? Did they not know what they were getting into when they boarded a train that travels through time? Meanwhile, Crow Imagin keeps on killin' people. I wonder what the cops in Den-O's universe do, besides trying to arrest Ryôtarô and then giving up when he vanished in a bathroom (episode #4.)

Showdown

Airi gets Tomoya to calm down with some of her coffee (which is probably laced with sedatives, which is why it gets the reaction that it does.) He starts to open up about his problems with Yumi. Following a big fight at their wedding ceremony, Tomoya, in a fit of anger, snatched away a pendant from Yumi and threw it in the way of an oncoming car. Simultaneously, Yumi tells Ryôtarô that she never wants to see Tomoya again and forget all about him. Tomoya, however, has since realized that he was wrong and wants to make it up to Yumi. He also feels guilty for his outburst in the Milk Dipper and begins to repair the furniture.

Ryôtarô tries to convince Yumi's mind about Tomoya, and for his troubles successively:

1.) Gets hit by a kid on a tricycle and knocked down a hill.
2.) Gets hit in the head by a baseball.
3.) Gets hit in the head by a tennis ball.
4.) Gets hit in the head by a soccer ball.
5.) Gets hit in the head by a football.
6.) Gets knocked down another hill, sliding on a signpost.
7.) Nearly gets run over by a truck.

Next episode: Ryôtarô repeatedly steps on a rake that hits him in the face, gets kicked in the groin by schoolgirls and mauled by a bear!

Crow Imagin attacks!

As if things weren't bad enough, Crow Imagin shows up. He crushes Yumi's pendant, fulfilling the contract. Yumi's wish was to forget all about Tomoya, and this is linked to the music that her pendant made- the pendant that Tomoya originally gave her. Crow Imagin destroyed those who associated with the same song, and in finally destroying Yumi's pendant, gains access to her past. Ryôtarô tries to intervene, but is knocked silly. Momotaros & Urataros show up to help him out, but both are upset that the other also appeared to help. Ryôtarô, seeing that Yumi cries for the loss of her pendant, realizes that she can never truly forget about Tomoya, and then transforms.

The Den-Liner heads for 7/24/2006, the day of Yumi & Tomoya's wedding. Sure enough, the betrothed get in an argument and things go straight to hell. The scene where guests are literally flung down the steps is pretty funny, but things get serious when Crow Imagin appears from Yumi and starts to go on a rampage.

AHHHHHHHHHHH!

The good guys arrive and Ryôtarô reveals he wants Urataros to be with him for this battle, despite Momotaros' protests that he has a score to settle with Crow Imagin. Den-O Rod Form arrives and does battle against the Kaijin. All the while, the mysterious man with the watch looks on.

Rod Form vs. Crow Imagin

Rod Form beats up Crow Imagin, and keeps him from getting away with a little fly-fishing. Den-O then switches over to Sword Form to give Momotaros his justice, and he promptly whups Crow Imagin good.

Post-Sword Pre-Plat Form

We find out that Ryôtarô's reasoning for going in Rod Form first was to snatch Yumi's discarded necklace (the one that Tomoya had thrown) and bring it back to her in the present, and as he arrives at the Milk Dipper, he finds that Yumi has also gone there. She briefly fights with Tomoya, but then the latter takes out his "bomb"- revealing it to be a package, containing two matching versions of the same necklace.

Things more or less work out in the end- Yumi and Tomoya rebuild their relationship, everybody survives another episode, and Ryôtarô has some quality time with Airi where they talk about that telescope. Ryôtarô asks her to recall her memories of it, and a tear begins to flow...

Meanwhile, a shadowy new Imagin appears before someone...

Friend or Foe!?

To Be Continued...
