"That's not flying, that's falling with style!"

Okay, so after letting the Den-O movie review sit for a while, it's time to talk about last Sunday's Kamen Rider Kiva episode.

This looks wrong

Kamen Rider Kiva Episode #35: "New Arrangement: Flying Rose"

There's more plot talk from Kivat & Tastsulot as Saga does his thing. But Horsefly Fangire escapes.

Wataru apologizes to Bloody Rose as he fixes it.

Back in the cave, Mio adresses Maya as "Queen",

"I haven't heard that name in a while. Aren't you Queen now?"

"I have something I need to ask you".

At the cafe, Shima hands the IXA Knuckle to Kengo, saying that from now on he will be IXA. Nago argues that it belongs to him, but Shima counters that it is the Blue Sky Organization's property. In keeping with his tough new persona, Kengo acts like a major ass. He's trying to usurp Nago as King of the Bastards! Nago grabs him, but Kengo beats him down, even standing on the injury he sustained last episode.

Mio wants to quit being Queen. Maya says that's it's impossible. She did not pick Mio to be Queen, "the Queen's power" picked her.

"I don't need that power."

"You... fell in love, didn't you? With a human man. I made that choice once..."

And as a result, lost her role and power as the Queen.

Shima talks with Kanda some more in a bar. Kanda rants about getting the power he's been after, and becoming a hero to the masses and all that. Yep, dead man walking.

Special K performs another experiment with the Horsefly Fangire woman, transferring the power of a male Fangire into her. But it's still not enough. He goes on another ranting-binge.

Bishop and Taiga meet to discuss Kanda. They wonder if they can use his power for their own ends. Saga recalls the Fangire he fought last time, and works it all out.

Wataru has fixed Bloody Rose. Kivat asks him to play it. He does, with expert skill.. but it's still not good.

"The sound is all wrong. This is no good... it's still not enough."

1986. Maya and Otoya are still making that violin. Jeez! She puts her hand over his chest and asks if he can feel it, her power. I'm sure he feels something! Yuri sees this, but leaves. She can't bring herself to confront him about Maya. She bumps into Jirô of all people.

"What's wrong Yuri?"

Otoya is not content yet, but Maya takes her leave. He finishes staining the violin. Jirô shows up. He says that Otoya's face looks dead. Like a man who saw a ghost... or who saw a Fangire. Otoya tries to tell him off, Jirô reminds him of Yuri. Otoya is not his old self. But he will not break up with Yuri over this.

"This conversation is over."

2008. Wataru wonders what t odo. Suddenly, the Garulu saber appears before him, transforming from the sword to Garulu/Jirô. Wataru is surpsied.

"Long ago, I was a friend of your father."

"My father..."

1986. Otoya completes the violin, but before he can play, Maya stops him. It's not done yet. It misses the most important part: a wish. Inori. Get ready, we're going to hear that word A LOT.

2008. Jirô talks about wishes to Wataru. It's exactly what Otoya put into that violin. Wataru ponders this. At the cafe, he continues to wonder what his father's wish.

Taiga enters, he has been looking for Wataru to ask him about what to give to Mio: a necklace or pierced earrings. Wataru thinks they go well together, and Taiga gets the idea.

Kanda continues his experiment, but the woman has turned wild now, laughing maniacally. She breaks free, and suddenly smug Mr. Ranty McRanterson is fearing for his life. Kanda electrocutes her, and she appears to explode... but she just turns into Fangire mode. He has made her stronger than even he could ever know, and she thanks him by killing him. I'll say it again: It sucks to be a scientist in the Riderverse.

Taiga and Wataru talk (three guesses who about.) The Horsefly appears before Mio, desiring to take her power. Taiga tries to stop her, but she vanishes with the girl in tow. Whoa! Since when could they do that?

"Leave the rest to me" says Taiga. Wataru desires to go as well. No matter what happens.

"Up until I lied... sorry. I like Mio too."

But Taiga's response is to shake his hand, and together they race off on their bikes.

Okay, about this scene: You'd think Taiga would notice something funny about Wataru's bike. I mean, I can suspend disbelief for a lot of things (and I mean A LOT) but his logo's right there on it! Or maybe that only appears when Kiva's on it? Then again, I guess it's kind of a tradition that nobody's ever able to figure out the Rider's alternative identity even when they're tooling around town on the bike.

In the lab, Mio is strapped down to a table. The Horsefly Fangire desires her power. Hey, wouldn't you? Soon, she will become invincible.

Wataru shows up and destroys the requisite evil control panel. He rescues Mio, and fights with the Fangire hand-to-hand. He tells her to run for it. He calls Kivat into action, who attacks the monster. He bites Wataru.

"Henshin!"

I kinda like the transformation here, with a ticked-off Wataru slowly getting up as he changes to Kiva.

They fight and soon are outside. Kiva beats up on the monster, but it attacks him with a projectile weapon and hoofs it. He gives chase, but the monster runs. They go up some stairs. Taiga sees this from afar.

"Kiva... I'll take you power." What is with people and that?

He whistles, summoning a massive flying snake beast which knocks Kiva away. The Fangire runs, but Sagarc attacks it. Taiga walks up, and transforms.

"Henshin."

Sagarc goes to his waist, he transforms into Saga. Saga approaches monster menacingly.

The big flying snake thing throws Kiva for a loop, knocking him back into Wataru. Kivat tries to awaken him. Suddenly, Bloody Rose plays, and Tatsulot notices.

Kivat tries to fight the giant flying snake. Tatsulot brings Bloody Rose to Wataru. Wataru takes it. He stands up slowly, looking at the violin. He thinks back to Jirô's words.

"Father... please tell me... your wish."

Wataru rises, and begins to play his violin once again.

1986. Maya tells Otoya to put his wish into the violin. He begins playing the same tune as Wataru. Maya watches on.

"In their hearts, all humans play music. I want to protect that music."

His "wish" fills the air with Otoya's music. The violin glows.

"It's finished" says Maya.

Otoya names it... Bloody Rose.

2008. Wataru continues playing... now for his wish.

"I want to find my music. And doing that, I think I'll become stronger... I want my music to make everyone happy."

Wataru plays with expert skill. The Bloody Rose glows, and he does as well. Kivat and Tatsulot go to him, and he changes into Kiva Flight Style!

From the cave Maya hears the sound of the creature. The Arms Monsters see it on their playing card. Suddenly, Castle Dran rumbles and shakes. Riki's in a hallway, and a painting falls. The handle of a sword smashes through the wall.

"This is...!"

Saga uses his finisher, executing the mutant Fangire.

Kiva Flight Style fights the giant snake thing. There's an aerial battle. The snake beast wraps Kiva up, but he breaks out. The green jewels on his head light up, and he uses a massive blast to destroy the monster.

Maya wanders about... calling out Wataru's name.

"I want to see you... Wataru!"

NEXT TIME: What is the mysterious sword in the wall? Plus Kiva and Saga fight at last (and it seriously looks like he's using a machine gun on him) and Yuri kicks some monster butt!

There's more previews for the Den-O movie too.

  1. Did I really read that right? A motorcycle scene? On a Kamen Rider Episode? Don't remember the last time that happened.
