Break Up Fuestle

The Final Countdown to the Final Climax has begun!

...but right now it's time to talk about this week's Kiva.

Don't post Spoilers or Kengo will come kick you!

Let's compare scarves.

Kamen Rider Kiva Episode #34: "Noise: Melody of Destruction"

Saga executes Tortoise Fangire while Kivat and Tatsulot discuss the plotl.

The next day, Wataru is making a cake at home for his upcoming "Broken Heart" (re: break up) Party. Kivat asks how he's doing, and they talk about Mio. Wataru has decided to leave Mio to Taiga. He wants them both to be happy, and this is the only way. Shizuka agrees, because she feels he deserves someone better.

Nago Shizuka & Megumi celebrate with Wataru at the cafe. I think it's a bit strange to have a party over the fact that you basically unofficially broke up with your One True Love™, but maybe I'm just old school. I also think it's a bit strange that Nago & Wataru have sparkly jackets, but what the heck.

Nago's been on a bizarre progression lately. I mean I expected he'd either continue down the path of crazy bastardness or turn it around and redeem himself, but he hasn't exactly done either. He basically found out Wataru is Kiva, and suddenly he's jumpin' in the bath and getting in on all the goofy scenes. So I guess he's on the road to becoming a full-time good guy, in his own strange way. I kinda felt for him in this one because of what happens to him, but you can't deny he kinda brought it on himself.

Taiga shows up, and Nago offers him some cake. Taiga is upset that some woman had the nerve to break up with his friend, but Wataru is reluctant to dwell on the matter for obvious reasons.

At an amusement park, Wataru & Mio ride in the teacups, talking about her date with Taiga. She says she hates things that spin around. I guess that's a metaphor. Things are awkward between them. Mio still loves Wataru, but he cares about Taiga's feelings and wants what's best for him. Taiga is glad they are so happy, unaware of the truth.

Later they are walking, and Taiga wonders what to ride next. Suddenly a man runs between them, he smashes a bottle and takes a girl hostage. The heroes look on in shock. Nago shows up, identifies the crazy dude, and approaches him, ready to take him down. When he threatens the girl though, Nago backs down, and turns around. He then takes out his button necklace, throws it at the guy's face, and starts beating the guy up. But the fight quickly changes and Nago starts to lose. Suddenly, a man in camo pants shows up. It's Kengo! But now with short black hair and a mean disposition. He goes all Kick Hopper on the man, and then on Nago.

Shima introduces the gang to Kengo, who is now a new full-time Blue Sky member. He acts as if he doesn't know the others, and has a generally unpleasant attitude. He punches Nago out, and Megumi has to break them up. Shima dryly tells them all to get along as friends.

Wataru tries to talk with Kengo, who ignores him. He is glad to see him, but Kengo declares him "a fake friend". Megumi notes how his speech has changed (he lost his jovial Kansai dialect for a tougher, meaner Tokyo one.) Nago is upset that his "former pupil" has schooled him so badly.

Not too sure about the newer, tougher Kengo yet. I liked him back when he was Wataru's #1 buddy when nobody else was (i.e. when IXA wanted to kill him) but the whole injury/getting rejected/going-Kageyama bit needs to settle in. By the end of the episode we already have a good idea what's in store for the former rocker's future.

Elsewhere, a woman awakens in a jail cell. She begs to be let loose. A man in a lab coat appears, talking of his research. This is Doctor Kanda. She demands to be released, and he screams at her to be quiet. Using a remote device, he electrocutes her. She falls back, revealing that she is the Horsefly Fangire.

Later, Taiga talks with Kanda. He seems to be just another guy out the progress humanity. His goal is to "transplant the abilities from one being to another". Taiga has a toady/new sidekick, who asks if the man should be eliminated. But Taiga wants to wait on this one. This research could benefit the Fangire...

1986. Otoya works on his violin with Maya. Down below, Yuri listens in on them. She is heartbroken.

2008. Wataru sits in the bath, thinking of Mio and Kengo. With each passing negative thought, Bloody Roses's strings shiver and finally break, and the violin cracks. Kivat and Tatsulot are shocked. Wataru sees it, and realizes it's his fault.

"Bloody Rose is angered..."

Taiga says he's glad Mio is Queen. He likes her. They share the same feelings. And besides, it'd be kind of awkward if she were like, an old lady or something. He puts his hand on her, but she shakes it off, apologizes, and leaves. Taiga is concerned about this. What's up with his Queen?

Bishop meets her outside. He wonders why she isn't happy. She wants to quit her role as Queen. Bishop says that's impossible. He explains to her that she must be Queen, no mater what. He wants her to avoid the "tragedy of the previous Queen", and recommends that Mio go meet her.

Doctor Kanda approaches the woman in the cell. She won't follow his orders, but he reminds her that he controls her life with his electric thingy. The woman approaches and captures anther Fangire. She must takes his power...

The scientist transfers the Fangire life energy from the man into the woman, Kaede. He wants to create the "ultimate lifeform". The man's body cracks and explodes, but Kaede survives.

Bishop meets with Taiga, the King. He asks what he's thinking about. Taiga has determined that Mio likes someone else. Bishop tells him not to worry about trivial stuff like that, he needs to be concerned with the "Yami No Kiba" (or possibly Kiva, you can't really tell. Pretty sure it's Kiva though. In that case, they're talking about "The Dark Kiva".)

Bishop will deal with Mio's problem, which in his mind is also the King's problem. Wataru, as Taiga's friend, acts as a bad influence and distracts him from his Kingly duties. So you know what that means for Bishop: time to go kick some ass!

Shima meets with Kanda. As it turns out, Kanda was a former Blue Sky member. Shima is aware of his research and tells him to quit before it gets out of hand. Messing around with the Fangire is dangerous... does he speak from experience? But Kanda is obsessed, mad with the power he could unlock...

Which is all well and good, but Kanda? Shocker kidnaps guys like you for breakfast. I like his Dr. Mochizuki impression though.

1986. Otoya & Maya are still makin' that violin, which is most likely going to end up being Bloody Rose. Yuri watches, upset.

2008. In a park, Wataru apologizes to his father for letting his violin be destroyed. Bishop approaches. He asks why Wataru has Kiva's power. He ponders about his mother... but it's impossible. Wataru is confused, and can't answer Bishop's questions.

So Bishop resolves to beat the answers out of him.

Bishop attacks Wataru physically, then changes to his true form, the Swallowtail Fangire. He demands answers. Nago appears to blast him away with the IXA Knuckle. He becomes IXA...

"Henshin!"

...and goes Rising.

IXA shoots at the monster. Kaede suddenly appears.

"You are IXA. I will take your life."

The woman turns into the Horsefly Fangire and grabs Rising IXA's gun, shooting him with it. Bishop watches this, displeased at this new "abomination", but turns his attention back to Wataru. Guess what he's doing?

"Henshin!"

Wataru becomes Kiva and fights Bishop. Bishop sprays glittery dust(hey, butterfly/moth weapon du jour), knocking him down. Tatsulot is summoned of course, and Kiva goes to Emperor Form. Now he stands a chance againt Swallowtail. IXA uses the Calibur on Horsefly, who still has his gun. She throws it aside and picks up the Calibur sword which was knocked from IXA's grip (can't he hold onto anything?) She pins him down, and holds it to his neck.

Kiva sees this from his struggle, but is unable to help. The monster readies the sword to be stabbed downward at Rising IXA. Kiva breaks free, throws Swallowtail at the other Fangire, and uses Wake Up Fever. Bishop's alterego teleports away, and the Horsefly monster is gone as well. Kiva goes over to the weakened Nago. The Horsefly Fangire runs, but is confronted by Taiga.

"The Fangire who harms an ally... What are you up to?"

She attacks him, but it's useless. Taiga summons Sagarc.

"Henshin!"

Saga uses his whip-like Jacorder to bash the monster through some trees. The Horsefly Fangire wisely books it. Saga stays behind, probably wondering when he'll get an actual fight scene with punching and all that.

Elsewhere, in a darkened cave, Mio finds a robed figure.

"I've been looking for you, Queen"

It turns out to be a weakened, eyepatch-wearing Maya...

NEXT TIME: Kengo gets the IXA Knuckle. Kiva's Flight style (from the movie) debuts. Emperor Form is shown playing the Violin. JirĂ´ returns. And Saga settles things with the Horsefly Fangire.

Not shown: Kanda probably dies horribly. Trial B, he ain't.

  1. It seems the movie could be in continuity...what do you think?

Anyway, great episode today, but I'm curious bout why Maya is still alive, and what she does in that place. She lives there? She's a Tramp Fangire now? What's goin on with her? The tragedy Bishop talks is her fallin in love with Otoya, I presume...anyway, next episode could give us some answers.
P.S. not so sure of that flying thing, by the way.

  2. apparently they were talking about how taiga is yami no kiva's (the previous king?) successor by tradition.. since kiva is apparently the mark of the king of fangires. which taiga refutes since it seems there's another one.

did kanda order horesfly to eliminate ixa? wonder if horesfly fanire will get enough of these powers and eventually kill kanda... and i wonder if he was planning to someday transfer those powers to himself.... :o and will wataru finally complete his mission of creating a violin of his own? and how did they strip maya of her powers.. is she even still a fangire? etc.

so many questions........... i actually really like how this series is moving between questions and answers.
