Like Father, Like Son

Lots of stuff that didn't quite happen.

Spoilers & Father/Son Possession ahead

Kamen Rider Kiva Episode 19: Fusion: Aura Storm

Kivat talks about something or other while Kiva destroys the Seastar Fangire.

1986. Rook eats his parfait reward. He asks a nearby woman if there's anything interesting in her magazine. When she doesn't respond, he kills her. Harsh! Seeing that her magazine is about wedding dresses, he gets the idea for a new "Time Play".

At a packed wedding, the bride and groom walk down before the crowd. Yuri walks by and looks on with a mix of happiness and envy. Rook shows up, and kills the bride. The crowd flee in panic. Rook smells the bouquet as Yuri appears to knock it from his hand. He beats her back, the flowers land at his feet, and he crushes them as he approaches her. He throws Yuri's weapon back at her and approaches menacingly, but he doesn't kill her, leaving her to slump back in fear instead.

2008. In a repeat of the first episode, Wataru walks by the same place and sees the scar in the wall. Later he and Shizuka are gathering snail shells, when some punk kids come by. They harass Wataru, but Kengo shows up to kick their butts!

Later he and Wataru at the cafe. As Kengo rubs his sore knuckles, Wataru asks him about what he's been up to since they last met, and the other man talks about how he's spent a lot of time thinking... about his "meeting" with Kiva, which taught him about a new kind of "rock". He asks an uncomfortable Wataru about Kiva, when Nago enters. And in 3... 2... 1...

"Kiva is the enemy of humanity!"

Wataru disagrees. Nago tells him to shut up. Megumi shows up and backs Wataru though, saying the "current Kiva is different". Kengo doesn't care about the politics though, he's just obsessed with Kiva and his style of "rocking". Desperate to find out who he is, they seek out a clairvoyant. Nago decides he wants to go to, if only to learn who Kiva is so he can kill him.

They go to... whatever you call a spiritual contact guy, who talks about the dark secret someone in that room has. He begins to talk about Kiva, but passes out. Megumi is underwhelmed, and Nago says this was a waste of time, but the gang notice that Wataru has also passed out.

Wataru is alone, in a dark place, a voice calling out to him...

He reawakens back home with Shizuka, Kengo & Megumi. Suddenly, a blue light overtakes him, and he begins acting differently, as though his body were not his own. No longer the shy, reserved Wataru, he begins to act vaguely like... Otoya.

He quickly reverts, and wonders what just happened. Deep inside him, he heard a voice...

1986. Otoya plays with the doggie at the cafe. Jirô & Yuri talk about Rook, with both wanting to kill him for their own reasons. The wolfman is steadfast in not handing over the IXA Knuckle to Yuri yet, so she leaves. Otoya gives Jirô an autograph of some famous person or other, causing him and Kido to flip out. But that turns out to be fake. Jirô then realizes that Otoya took something from him just then. And that something is...

Otoya catches up to Yuri.

"I have something good to give you."

He hands over the IXA Knuckle. Yuri thanks him, but punches him out and runs off.

Rook murders another bride. Yuri busts into the church, but even with the power of IXA at her disposal, feels overwhelmed with fear, and can't move. Rook just walks past Yuri, leaving her behind in the church.

2008. While shopping, the same high school kids try to harass Wataru, but he changes again, and beats them up, scaring them off. Shizuka is perplaxed by the new Wataru. Wataru dances around the mall, acting abnormally (for Wataru, and for anyone, really!) He then looks at himself in a reflection, and wonders who he is. He looks at newspaper, surprised to see it's 2008. Whoever he is, he's behind the times...

Soon he does what any sensible person would do: he goes to a maid cafe. But while being spoon/fork-fed there, he reverts back to regular Wataru.

The three high school kids are attacked by the Lady Bug Fangire. I'm amazed they all got out of this one intact, since Kiva has a tendency to kill off supporting characters if they so much as have a line (the old guys who Otoya ruined, the noodle shop owner and his daughter, etc.) And even then it's not as bloodthirsty as in the 70's, where they would have been dead within the first 5 minutes in a "Did you see my power just now!?" sequence.

Bloody Rose plays, and Kivat takes off. Wataru runs out of the maid cafe. He confronts the Fangire, and transforms.

"Henshin!"

Kiva (Kiva Form) easily beats up the Fangire, and strangely, prepares to just walk away, but the monster was only feigning it, and blasts him. Kiva summons Basshaa.

Inside Castle Dran, Basshaa is covered in chains, turning him into the Basshaa Magnum, and he flies out of Dran's mouth. Just like the toy!

Kiva Basshaa Form shoots at the monster, knocking it out of the air. The Fangire books it. Wataru de-transforms, but he's back to his newer, tougher self again. He knocks a worried Kivat out of the air.

"Who is Wataru?"

Kengo is bugging Nago, when the Fangire shows up. Nago knocks it out of the air with a blast from his IXA Knuckle, and prpares to transform. But he is knocked back, and loses his grip on the Henshin device. Megumi shows up to provide cover fire, while Nago attacks the monster physically.

Kengo watches on, impressed by these two. Megumi can't fire with Nago in the way though, and suddenly finds herself between him, the Knuckle, and the monster. The Fangire finds the situation interesting and wants to fight Megumi as IXA. But like her mother, she can't move, and the Fangire easily beats up on her.

Kengo runs and attacks the monster, but is soon punched out. The Fangire takes Nago & Kengo hostage, still egging Megumi to fight him as IXA. But Wataru then shows up.

"So the Fangire are still alive in this world?"

"Who the Hell are you!?"

"Kurenai... Otoya"

NEXT TIME: Wataru still thinks he's Otoya. Castle Dran and Powered IXA have joined together to an attack an enemy. And there's a woman in black (named Maya!)

There's also a preview for the movie, that shows the new Riders and monsters, and a new Kiva Form. IXA's there, shooting something. There's Zombie-looking people. Looks cool.

Also, I guess there was a new song in this episode or something, but to be honest I haven't been paying attention to the ED themes at all this year. Time to listen to that CD...

  1. It was the Reimon's theme, Innocent Trap. And no, it's not a joke.

  2. Hold it! What? Wataru thinks he's his father? AND there was another Kiva? It would be interesting if Otoya eventually became Kiva and captured Castle Dran and the like, as well as regenerated into the Wataru we all know. But that's way to farfetched.
I agree on the killing of the episode's supporting cast. I actually like that noodle guy and that chick from the restaurant. It's pretty lame that those innocent people have to die in order to move the plot along. Unless the writers use it as an excuse so Wataru can't transform in front of people.
