The New IKRB Master Plan

I've mentioned on and off about trying out a new more "formulaic" approach to this blog, designed as a way to make it a bit easier to plan out what to write about every day (as I sometimes literally find myself overwhelmed with ideas but lacking the time or energy, re: story of my life) as well as bring on more of the most popular articles featured here. So I'll give it a shot this month and see how it goes. Obviously, it won't be that rigid, as sometimes news just pops up out of the blue and I already have more than a few special week-long linked entries planned out as well as other odds and ends, but the general scheme of things will run like this:

Sunday: For the next two sundays at least, Kamen Den-O gets recapped, followed by Kamen Rider Kiva once that starts up. Basically, it's "Current Series Review Day".

Monday: Upcoming & new merchandise news for the week/month. I think these will probably be most exciting towards the end/beginning of the month, but seeing as how at least a dozen new things come out every month, I'm sure I'll be able to fill it up.

Tuesday: Merchandise Reviews. Basically everything that isn't a TV show or movie, although I will review DVDs (as in the DVDs themselves; the special features, etc.) Mainly it'll be new (and old, but most new) books, CDs, toys, trading cards, whatever strikes my fancy. Usually it'll be good reviews too, as I tend to just buy things I want and like, but every now and then, I do get a surprise or two...

Wednesday: I've been meaning to write more about Rider comics on this blog, as they're an endless source of enjoyment, partly brought about by the fact that a lot of them aren't very good, but they're an entertaining sort of not-very-good. However, I will talk about the good ones too, including much gushing love for Kamen Rider Spirits, and for the first few weeks, I'll have an overview of the recent and very cool The Men Who Made Kamen Rider.

Thursday: Guest column day! These are always inexplicably popular, and make me fear the possibility that if I ever really meet Tokuyama Hidenori, he'll probably kill me. Anyway, you can figure out how this works. Later this week: Predictions for the end of Kamen Rider Den-O!

Friday: Battle Fight! I keep meaning to do more of these and never find the time. The new Battle Fight expands to include fights from the comics and other spin-off material, and just a lot of goofy match-ups with wonderfully (horribly) contrived endings. So it's basically becoming less informative and more about making cheap jokes. Just this once Rose, everybody lives!

Saturday: Well, at least next Saturday, I'll be doing a massive Den-O catch-up in which I attempt to summarize all the episodes I've missed in about 3 words each (well, a little more than that) and once Kiva starts up, this will become a sort of "Rider Masterpiece Theater", reviewing an older series each week (and by older, I mean anything older than Kabuto) The first 52 installments will be, you guessed it, Kamen Rider V3, in honor of the big green guy's 35th Anniversary, his recent big-screen revival, and the fact that it's the only complete series I have on DVD with me at the moment (I miss my original series box...)

And some special occassions will see double posts (like a new Sigma episode, or the big inevitable final verdict on Den-O, etc.) Again, that's the current plan for the next few months and maybe beyond.

Anyway, here's a picture of an upcoming candy toy set (the usual "mini vinyl figures one) featuring Kiva's four basic forms. All together now: "It's the second coming of Kuuga!!!1!!!1one"

Kiva Forms

  1. Just a note: it ain't the 2nd coming of Kuuga JUST YET. He has to have the parallel to THAT BIG BEETLE'S VERSIONS: The "Fell-into-Hell" forms as opposed to "Rising" forms.

Sir Iga: Sorry for stealing that off Yaguruma.

  2. I don't actually think it'll be the second coming of Kuuga (as it rarely ever is), but I like how I've seen people say that based solely on the colors of his forms. It's the same sort of logic that associates both Tendou & Ryoutarou wearing scarves as some sort of "homage" to the old Riders. Because nobody EVER wears those things in Japan! XP

Your mention of Tendou reminded me of God Speed Love which I watched a while ago.

YAGURUMA SHOULD HAVE REMAINED AS THEBEE!!!! I liked him smooth... plus, He's badass with his love of perfection....

"Perfect Harmony.... Perfect Mission.... and.... *drumroll)* How could PERFECT DEATH descend upon me?"

  4. Hmm Kamen Rider Spirits... too bad here in Europe is not published. And for Kuuga, well, could be the Rider with more forms of all of them, right?
