...before you summarize the end of a series, you must put a Spoiler Warning."
Mishima broadcasts the announcement that the Worms are nearly defeated, and that you can do your part to help out by wearing one of the Worm-detecting necklaces. He also cautions that those without necklaces could be Worms themselves, so be sure to get one. Kagami is at the hospital with Renge, but she's recovered- it's his father who is there now. Renge gives him the letter from Tendô, which confirms what his father told him. Negishi and Mishima will transmit a shock to every necklace, turning all who wear one into a Native. The letter continues that they need a large antennae atop a transmission station to broadcast the single, so find that, and you will find them. Telling Renge to watch over his father, Kagami sets off, but is stopped by Tadokoro and Misaki. However, they are intent on aiding him, and keep the Zectroopers- who now turn into Natives- busy while he transforms and heads for the transmission facility.

Hiyori's still cookin', and everyone in the Bistro is oblivious to the apocalyptic chaos going on elsewhere. She also gets her own apron! ...Yeah.
Gatack busts in on the bad guys, ignoring Negishi's comments that he thought Kagami was on their side. He prepares to smash the requsite Evil Control Panel™, but Mishima intervenes. "I've hated you for a long time" he snarls before transforming into his own Native form, Gryllusworm.
Gryllusworm is too powerful for Gatack, and beats him back easily. The Zectroopers turn into Natives and join in on the beat-down, in spite of Gatack's pleas to remember their former selves. Gryllusworm strikes a critical blow and Kagami is knocked unconcious.
Negishi begins the broadcast, but rather than talk of humanity's victory over the Worms, he explains his plan to make all humans into Natives. As crowds of people are brought to their knees by the signal (watch closely here for a quick cameo from two familiar faces from God Speed Love) Negishi states that there is no more need for humanity, and a world of Natives will be a peaceful world. Kagami tries to resist, but is too weak, and is beaten down by Mishima. Suddenly, a familiar voices fills the room.
Grandmother said this: "There is only one name in this whole world that you must remember. Walking the path of Heaven, the man who rules over all. Tendô Sôji."
Tendô's alive, baby! He appears atop of the facilitie's antennae tower and leaps down. The Kabuto Extender comes smashing through the wall, followed by its owner. Tendô tosses the flower he was reaching for last episode at the meteorite, and for some reason, everything starts to explode. But hey, it is Tendô.
Tendô states that a world free from conflict will happen, but not by Mishima and Negishi's way. A world where all will live together peacefully.
"Such a world isn't needed! Human's aren't needed!" Negishi screams. But Tendô's words have affected the formerly-human Zectroopers, and despite being ordered by Mishima to attack, they willingly revert back to human, and instead turn on the two. Tendô transforms. Mishima, majorly pissed off, takes off his glasses and crushes them under his shoe. Both he and Negishi scream Kabuto's name, but only Mishima sticks around; his partner-in-crime runs for it, pursued by the Zectroopers. Mishima changes into Gryllusworm, and proves too strong even for Kabuto.
But Kagami, who has weakly managed to come too, transforms again and finally, together, the two Riders fight one more time. Despite their combined strength, Gryllusworm still overpowers them, but the Hyper Zecter appears and Kabuto goes into Hyper Kabuto, breaking free of the Kaijin's hold.
Nearby, Dark Kabuto begins to stir...
Summoning the Perfect Zecter, Kabuto strikes Gryllusworm with the Maximum Hyper Typhoon.
But even that doesn't stop Gryllusworm, who slashes away the attack in in the process, shatters the Perfect Zecter sword. "I win!" he roars, preparing to end this once and for all. But Gatack throws both of his Gatack Calibers, mortally wounding the monster and giving the Riders an opening.
Gryllusworm takes the full force of two Rider Kicks, and is utterly destroyed in a massive explosion. Kabuto tries to save his dark counterpart, but Gatack pulls him back, for it's already too late. The explosion begins to engulf the entirely facility, and our heroes race out. Negishi, having beaten up the 'troops, furiously yells to Kabuto again. With his plans ruined, he is driven mad by his own blind hatred. He turns into his Native form, but is seized by Dark Kabuto, who comes racing out of the flames.
"I leave this world up to you! Our world!" he yells, before changing into a Native himself and rushing with Negishi back into the fire, destroying them both.
Tendô and Kagami revert back to normal, and let their Zecters fly free. They collapse, and for the first time, Tendô acknowledges that Kagami is his friend.
One Year Later...
Tadokoro, now working at a Soba restaurant, drops by the Bistro to meet Renge, Juka, and Misaki, who is the head of the Discabile Corporation, a restaurant line inspired by Tsurugi and Jiiya. Daisuke and Gon drop by to say hi (and confirm that they're alive) and Hiyori soon shows up (after driving through what looks like the final scene of Kamen Rider Blade.) She looks up at Tokyo Tower, and thinks of Tendô...
As the credits roll, Hiyori makes her special recipe, as everyone gathers in the Bistro.
Elsewhere, Kagami is now a police man, helping kids cross the street. From a car window, his father looks on approvingly. One girl asks Kagami what happened to "The man who walked the path of Heaven", to which he replies that he's on his way back with some tofu.
And Tendô, is in France, walking by the Eifel Tower with tofu in hand.
Grandmother said this: "Walking the path of heaven, the man who rules over all...
...Tendô Sôji."
THE END

Great summary Igadevil! Even though I'm pissed that this is how Kabuto turned out, this is pretty nice. Man they used some old movie cliche, where the common masses are given some terrible product that is potentially hazardous, and our heroes have to save the day.
ReplyDeleteNow time to drink some Slurm.
Now, I'm not a huge fan of Kabuto, but that, my friend, was how you end a series. None of this leaving a zillion storylines unresolved (I'm looking at YOU, Faiz), no cutting away from massive battles (stop snickering, Hibiki, you did that too!). Not that I didn't appreciate (or for that matter, get all misty-eyed over) Kenzaki's sacrifice at the end of Blade, but darn it, it's been years since a real "the good guys take down the final bad guy and everything blows up" showdown.
ReplyDelete...I had no idea Paris was renowned for its tufu. I MEAN, tofu.
Good final episode, it's nice to see the whole "You're forgetting something important - we aren't friends" theme from early on resolved. "Now that it's all over, we can be friends" type of thing. I have a shopping list of complaints with the show (mostly starting around the mid 30's), but at least this was a cool finale on it's own.
ReplyDeleteUp until the "Dark Kabuto/Missing Hiyori" arc, I was torn as to say which was a better series, Kabuto or Blade. However, I soon decided that Blade sure was the better of the two and is still my favorite. It just felt better written, they had the ending in mind the whole time.
Would have been nice to see Yagaruma make a return as a "reformed" TheBee (did he die in the episode prior?), as it makes Kageyama's loss meaningless without that. But I guess the "suprise help" was reserved for the cliched Evil Twin™, who really didn't need to be in the show when you have enough dark/repentant characters as it is.
I guess most of the faults with the show (including that one) stem from having too many Riders with stories to tell and resolve. Ryuki had a lot, but most were "villain of the week" or story arc villains, whereas Kabuto just kept adding more and more without removing any.
I felt a lot of the post-30 episodes felt very rushed and forced as they realized the show was ending soon and they hadn't yet come up with a solvable final conflict.
But again, nice episode (on it's own, ignoring the previous several). Here's looking forward to Den-O! Keep it simple guys, all we need is just one Rider (maybe 2 or 3).

Late reply, but didn't want to read it till I finished the episode myself (just watched the last four episodes).
ReplyDeleteI wasn't that pleased with the ending...a bit...rushed? Cheesy last shot as well, with the weird borders and whatnot. I couldn't believe that this was the best they could come up with.
It was nice that the Beetle Duo officially became friends in the end and that the world was saved, but it felt very anti-climatic.
Overall the show was great, one of the best I've seen recently (especially after watching Den-O episode 1...I sure hope it gets a LOT better). Great suits, actors, concept and effects.
By the way, I can't comment on your Den-O episode 1 post. Why is that?
Mahalo Iga-Devil,
ReplyDeleteDaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn...no matter what, the Beetle/Stag Beetle Duo will always be my favorites. I grew up with the Rider's in the 70's, but this series was just awesome.
Thanks for the great review, from Hawaii...Henshin safely!
God bless,
