Kiva time!
Spoilers & Otoya in drag ahead.

Kamen Rider Kiva Episode #22: Prelude: The Crossing of the Fates
Jirô & Yuri get married! As he leans in for the kiss... it turns out to merely be a dream sequence. Yuri is awoken at the café by Kido. He notes her pleasant face, and asks about her dreams. Yuri recalls Jirô's proposal of marriage...
Later on, in the café, Otoya talks to his friend Kumi as Jirô & Yuri watch on. The girl talks of her older brother, who was injured on the job and is unable to bring in the bacon. Otoya promises to help out, and takes up a part-time job at a construction site. Kinda like Wataru did a ways back, except Alternative Zero had nothing to do with this one.
2008. Kengo is bugging Nago again. Okay, I can clearly tell 1986 from 2008 by now. But lately, they've been just jumping from one to other sometimes without the usual bumper (the "Ooooooeeeeeoooooo" segue, or just a date) and that makes it a bit hard to follow when I'm trying to simultaneously recap these. At least sometimes they still do the color fade-in from monochrome, but jeez, the transition here made me think Nago & Kengo were in the same cafe our other heroes had just been in. Well okay, technically they are, but you know what I mean.
One of Megumi’s friends from last episode shows up, and good 'ol antisocial Nago legs it. This leads to Kengo asking Wataru if he's found a girl of his own yet, and I don't think I need to tell you what the answer is to that. Kengo reveals he's currently "dating" Suzuki Mio, the clumsy waitress from the restaurant jaunt last time.
Yes, it was love at first sight when she spilt stuff all over them. Unfortunately, it's mostly one-sided love on Kengo's part, so you know this won't end well.
A concerned Wataru takes a bath with Kivat. What? That's that happens, I'm not making this up. The Wataru Quotient™ for this episode is thus fulfilled.
There's some "dating" between Kengo & Mio, with them eating Okonomiyake and rowing a boat. Although it's pretty clear that Mio isn't cut out for this relationship at all.
1986. Jirô & Yuri are doing some clothes shopping in preparation for their upcoming wedding. Or rather, the Wolfman has bitten the bullet and caved into his bride-to-be's desire for new duds. Ah, the joys of marriage... Kumi is there, and so is the Chamelon Fangire (in human form.) Yuri looks at the expensive dress that Kumi wants to buy, and grows suspicious...
Later, Kumi counts her money from Otoya. She starts to blubber again, and talk about her injured older brother. Once again, Otoya vows to help.
2008. Megumi, Wataru & Mio talk at the café. Things haven't exactly worked out between her and Kengo, who arrives soon after. As Mio leaves in a hurry, Kengo softly tells Wataru to take it from there.
Outside, Wataru talks to Mio on a bench again, mirroring the previous episode. Mio thinks she’s pathetic and always will be, but Wataru insists that he believes all people can change. The Tofu seller guy (who also popped by last episode) comes by, and makes a sales pitch. But Wataru insists he’s okay (underlining his statement last episode about always cowing into other people, no matter the request), and runs off with Mio.
He soon notices they’re holding hands, and lets go. She smiles. Mio asks Wataru if they can meet up sometime.
“Eh!?”
1986. The Chameleon Fangire stalks a woman who bought from him. He thanks her for being a good customer, and then kills her. Ouch.
Kumi counts more of money Otoya has provided for her. She then takes off. Yuri appears.
“Are you an idiot?”
Yuri tells Otoya that the injured older brother story is all phony. All Kumi wanted was money, so she screwed over Otoya all to buy a new dress. Otoya takes it all in stride though, as he would.
“You really are an idiot.”
Shima enters to tell us about the Fangire of the week. Customers of a certain clothing store are being targetted. It doesn't take much to figure out where to go from there.
As it turns out, the dress that Kumi wanted was already bought. By Otoya no less, who turns up in drag to trick the Chameleon Fangire. Oh dear. Jirô & Yuri arrive to fight, but the monster turns invisible and runs off. Watch as Jirô just eats up the image of Otoya in a dress. Yuri on the other hand is frustrated by his nonsensical scheme.
“You really are an idiot, through and through.” says a smiling Yuri.
2008. Mio takes Wataru to a clothing story. The Chameleon Fangire is there of course. Mio wants some new clothes to start her change as a new person. Mio tries her best to resist the shop keeper's safe recommendations and instead acts on impulse, buying a blue print dress. She runs off, pulling Wataru in pursuit. He buys her some jewelry from a street vendor.
A new, confident Mio is at work. Megumi & Wataru check in to see how she’s doing. Unfortunately, she’s still the same old clumsy girl. Her boss tells her to get out, and she runs off tearfully. Just in time for the Chameleon Fangire to appear. He changes to his true form, and attacks.
Bloody Rose plays, summoning Kivat into action. Meanwhile, the monster strangles Mio, but starts to loosen his grip as his human visage is reflected on his stain glass-like body.
“This woman...!”
Kiva appears to save her. The Chameleon uses his stealth ability to get the drop on Kiva, dragging him around and attacking at random. Kiva evens the odds by summoning Dogga into action.
The Dogga Hammer flies to his hand. Kiva becomes Dogga Form. Using the Hammer’s "True Eye", Kiva locates the invisible monster, and knocks him down by throwing his weapon at it. Dogga Form finishes off the monster once and for all by bringing the big hammer down on.
1986. Jirô & Yuri enjoy a scenic lakeside view. Yuri makes a confession.
“Certainly...I don’t dislike you... but I can’t get married now.”
Jirô suspects something. Yuri prepares to return the ring. But Jirô doesn’t want it back. So Otoya appears to take it, and chuck it into the water!
2008. In the same place, Wataru meets with Mio. She has realized that if she is to really change, clothes and jewelry alone won't do it. She returns the jewelry he bought her... but tells him to take the ring, and put it back on her finger.
"It really fits you." says Wataru.
They smile at each other thoughtfully...
NEXT TIME: She’s baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

Thanks Igadevil!
ReplyDeleteIt's so sad that Yuri didn't say "yes."
Chameleon's business is gone down the hill, he's sellin some kinda hippies clothes in 2008. Damned recession.
ReplyDeleteWataru and Mio are so nice together, they're a lovely couple *__*
